i wouldn't red devils range from pretty aggressive to really aggressive in my opinion there way to aggressive for polypterus go for more peacful cichlids oscars would be much better for example as long as the poly is big enough that is

think fish like geophagus , bay snooks , severums the peacful ones polypterus are bullyed eazily they can really defend them selfs a fish like a red devil would just destroy one if it wan'ted to and when they get older and decide its doesn't like the poly it most likely will do away with it

I think that my best bet would be to wait for my next tank to get the red devils. Thanks for all the comments!

no problem ! my devil took a bite out of my thumb when i tried to get him out of a pipe into a net ! he was only about 8" aswell,lovely looking fish though

Yeah I loved my pair when I had them. They are awesome fish. They spawned probably 5 or 6 times before i sold them. I found out the hard way one day that they were spawning though. I was cleaning the gravel and my male, also about 8", took a bite out of my hand. I hated to get rid of them but at that time I didnt have much choice.
