Red dot Severum controversy put to rest! Wigglers!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Not sure where they came from. As mentioned, breeders tend to be tightlipped. I am leaning towards/hoping they are just a line bred version of the golds. I suppose it's possible someone crossed a gold with a rotkeil or the redheaded tapajos strain of greens. I hope not though. That fertility rate would lead me to believe line bred golds though. Golds aren't known for having good fertilization rates to begin with, line breeding them could make that worse.

I'd like to find out for sure myself. Keep in mind that mixing color morphs is not hybridizing.

Technically mixing races/color morphs are hybrids, but in the hobby we don't tend to pay attention to this part of the deffination. But strickly speaking it, from a deffination view, it is. Just not common aquairum usage.

I was saying color morphs, don't make hybrids I.E. albino, hypomelinistic, piballed, etc. Mixing any "color morph" of the same species, does not make a hybrid.
Now, mixing a rotkeil with an efasciatus would be.

regarding the ??, I think he is saying you turned the previous theories on red dot sevs upside down with proof that your pair has put out eggs and are now hatching.

I could be totally wrong but I'm pretty sure that's what he was saying.

Congrats on the wigglers! let me know if you have enough to grow out. Wife would probably want me to come by and pick some up ;p

Congrats! More pics would be awesome!

I did not hear that they are sterile. I kept a breeding pair about 5-6 years ago and they constantly laid but kept eating the eggs. When I separate the parents, the eggs goes bad but on one occassion, I got a few wigglers but manage to just get one survive to about 1/2" but I could not find where he she went. Unfortunately, I did not take any pic. After that, I gave the pair away. So, who cares what other people say. people will always think they know everything.

Water is green from the med for the eggs.
