I don't understand. Why does it have to be a hybrid?

People just guess and that is why. The truth is they don't know. I wish more people would take basic biology classes to better understand this stuff. Xanthic fish are real, and dovii are no exception. Look at xanthic jags. They aren't hybrids. There are many morphs and genetic variations that occur in nature. Just because the color or body is slightly different doesn't make it a hybrid or different fish. All humans might have different hair and skin color, but they are all the same sp. They are not hybrids. Why should fish color be any different? Its only a skin/scale pigment difference. unfortunately most xanthic animals don't survive in the wild since they stand out. They often get eaten or can't eat. When people breed fish they have a greater success rate of living since they are fed by humans.

Looks like a Albino strain....

Looks all dovii with a,color morph.

I thought out a red dovii from my imagination and asked if one existed few years ago after seeing a xanthic jag. Just being dumb with it. Never knew it existed. Its real

Xanthic fish occur no doubt but look at them all they have a lack of pigmentation of solid color of a color they normally have. take the jag for instance they show their base color of gold and thats it. dovii show no red ever in their lives and they do not fade into anything. so to get a dovii that is both red and has obviously faded says that that characteristic has came from somewhere else. i am a biology major so if you could get a hold of one of these guys i will bet that they show genes that are of a fading red fsih of any kind. i saw midevil because the tank already has a few of those in there along with some regular dovii. so i say red dovii is a hybrid on the facts that i have stated.

When it comes to fading put your major aside. Because thats no experience in fish with that..

Keep some fader fish instead.
this dovii got red freckles now because those freckles were black before. After fading, those black freckles become like that. All black pigments gone but the density of freckles stay.

Not saying hybrid or not but it dont look like any other besides a fader Dovii..

These are the kinds of fish we need testing on.

Very well explained!
