hey.... i have had a red ear slider for a while but about a month ago he started having some balance problems...... his left side preety much wants to float and he is very unbalanced and can't get to where he wants to go.

how can i fix it??? he is in a 40-gallon .....alone with a heater and a filter and a floating device.

i just want to see him be normal again.????

he might have a crack in his side and air is seeping in there. it happens to turts in the ocen who get hit by boats. i don't think it is anything searies tho

will it get fixed??? he was not able to get fully out of the water for a while might that have caused this???

has this ever happened to anyones RES before???

thanks

i'm not an expert but, check for any crackes on the side that floats. if he stayed in the water too long i highlu dought that might of cused. but yet again i'm not an expert. there sould many other pll here with more exp to you.

thanks. any other ideas?? and if there is a crack will it heal and fix itself???

not sure but if there is you might want to take him to the vet but i'm not sure.

Wait for the community experts, such as Vicious_Fish and Miguel. They have probably seen this problem and its associated behaviour before.

If you take it to a vet, make sure they know about Chelonia.

i could be totally wrong here, but something similar happened to my res a while back.....swam and floated tilted over to one side....

diagnosis: respiratory infection which is common with RESs

treatment: dry dock with plenty of sunshine.....i do'nt know if you are running a uva/b light on the tank? if not, take him out for a nice long sun bath....and even if you are - a nice 8-10hr hot sun bath for some number of days will do him well.....

thats all i got

Sounds to me like your turtle might have a respirary infection, aka a “Cold”. How long has he been swimming to one side? I'm pretty sure your turtle has the equivalent of our pneumonia. The reason why your turtle is swimming to one side is because it's one lung is probably filled with fluid which will effect it‘s bouncy. Increase the water temperature to 80-85 degrees. Wait a couple of days and if it still is swimming this way you're going to have to take it to the vet for antibiotics. Like BloodyIrish said, make sure the vet is familar with Chelonia! Good luck and keep us posted.
