I got mine off aquabid for 39.00 witch is like 9.50 a piece. If you intend to breed em get a few more and out em in thier own tank to grow out . That will give you better chances of getting a pair. I only have one male that's starting to get his adult colors and he is 3.5" and getting fat . Feed then hikari cichlid gold or cichlid staple and mix in frozen bloodworms and brine shrimp ever few days . Keep then in clean water and 80° temps they will grow faster.

Already feed it cichlid gold mixed with topfin pellets i did have night crawlers that my green terror and red devil just love made them grow alot faster

Knew were from ecuador forgot thats not central but i heard that someone hybrid one with a jaguar how is it that a central and a south can hybrid

How? They're in the same tank.

I believe that a festae can hybridize with any central American cichlid because they are essentially a central American cichlid that lives in south America. Now I've never seen a festaguar cichlid but from what I read here on Chrisplosions thread it should be possible.....

The only central I know that could breed with a south is Texas cichlids.

The festae and jag cross is called a manaconda:) google it!!! And the possibilites for hybrids are almost endless... the only thing i havent seen crossed is an umbee

Just make sure you google "manaconda cichlid", not just manaconda, especially if doing a Google Images search..... :uhoh:

They can hybridise because they are closely related, the ability to hybridise has nothing to do with geography and everything to do with genetics.

To answer the original question, I found the black in the dorsal fin was the most reliable indication of sex at a younger size. And if you want them to grow give them room to grow...

I will Google it. That sounds like a cool mix. A umbee x festae would be awesome.
