I recently ordered a Red Fin Pickerel from a site for my new tank. The site told me it would be about 8'' and max growth size is 14''. Their site said min tank size 10 gallons....That Sounds WAY too small....So i have a 20 gal that is longer then most normal 20 gallons. I really only plan on keeping the pickerel in there. So does anyone have any tips or any experience with Red Fin Pickerels?

One thing can you plz give me the site you order off of plz i bet he is goin to be AWSOME

Site is http://www.aquaculturestore.com/

And yes a 20 gallon will be too small once they hit full size. I have kept pickerels for 5 years now. i actually ordered 3 from them 2 months ago. They are very fast and active swimmers. If the tank is too small they will ram against the glass and injure themselves. Also make sure the tank is well covered, they will jump and jump hard. I would upgrade to a 55 gallon they are perfect for redfins(long is key) , you can find cheap ones on craigslist or walmart has the kits for like $100.00.

Yeah here's the URL http://www.aquaculturestore.com/
I called and they don't have anymore of the grass pickerels and all the red fin's are over 6'' until they get more.

Alright, Thanks for the info.

Yea , im actually on their waiting list for a Chain Pickerel, when they get them, they fly out of there. Hopefully within a few weeks ill get a call :)

16" is max size; 6-10" is more typical adult size. They are also not very active fishes. Still, 10 gallons is rather cramped.

It is late in the season for the fish, thats why they have the larger ones usually when they are fully stocked the pickerels they ship out are only 2 inches long, tiny little things . They could barely gulp a guppy down. So 10 gallons would be fine for them. 10 gallon min. is just that , the minimum for a small fish.

But I agree they should state a minimum for a full grown fish, due to the fact many people dont know how large they need to go.
