Hello, I have 2 Red Fin Prochilodus that I've had for about a year, they are still small under 4". My questions is if anyone has ever had them blowing bubbles on the surface of the water. I'll try to get a picture as soon as possible but just to give you guys an idea, it looks identical to when bettas make their nests. He has been doing fine, eating swimming, and doesn't look like he's struggling for air. He just casually goes up and blows some bubbles.

That's interesting. I've only had my flagtail for a month or so, but I haven't seen it blow bubbles. Following for the answer.

I've owned a few and have never seen that behavior. Concerned they may not be getting enough to eat as they should be closer to 10" by now. What is their diet?

they've grown quite a bit got them at at .75-1", to be exact I've had them for 9 months. They live munching on lettuce spinach and algea wafers

Their mouths are very specialized and they have trouble eating large/hard foods. You'll find they will do very well on veggie flake and small pellets.

Haha. Mine eats massivore if it can get ahold of it.

No mine neither, I have 2, maybe check your 02 levels again

Check your ammonia. Sounds almost like he is gasping for air, the bubbles could also be caused by ammonia as well.
