I have two flower horns, one 8 inch red dragon with a good sized kok and a red flame female. The two danced for each other through the divider or so i thought, but when I removed it he got very aggressive with her. So they are seperated again. Is there a way i can help things along? These would be awsome fry. Any advice would be appreciated.

Im unsure if flowerhorns are the same as regular cichlids, but try doing a large water change that lowers the temp a couple degrees.

Try softening the water, run peat in the filter or blackwater extract....and dim the lights for mood, light a few candles....haha

@ scriving, I don't know how old they are, but i should mention the female flame is the same size as the male. the male also rejected a smaller female midas proven with another flower horn in the past. If he were sterile would the females know this?

@ Preston5231 I will try get some peat in the morning. These are two realy good looking fish so if at all possible, i will breed them. doing a water change now.

I'm sure they would make awesome fry but maybe the male isn't mature enough or just too agressive. How old are both fish? I know everyone has different opinions but i would try pairing a male when he's at least 1 year old. Maybe you can try leaving them divided until the females tube is out & almost ready to lay eggs. Can u post pics bro...i'd like to see your pair.

I will try posting pics when I get back in a week. Original attempt resulted in the female aattacking the male but he was smaller then. Second attempt appeared to be going well (now equal in size) then for no apparent reason he started attacking her. They are divided now but can see each other. If this does not work I will look for another impresive male as the flame is a really good looking flowerhorn.
