I am new to MFK and in addition to my aquarium, I have a red-footed tortoise. This species is new to me, and I would like to compare notes on food and housing requirements with someone.

Hi. Well there is no specific piece of information that I am seeking, just general observations. I noticed that my tortoise has quite a sweet tooth, and will always eat her fruit first, and would eat fruit to the exclusion of vegetables and greens if I didn't limit her. and I wondered if other owners of Red-footed tortoises had the same experience. Also, here is a picture of my Rosebud

Her shell is only about 6.5" long now. I would like to see what type of set ups that some other people have for full grown Red-footed tortoises.

I can tell you that my Red-foot tortoise likes her water changed daily. She will not drink or bathe in water that is not fresh, but as soon as I do change the water, she goes right in to soak and also drinks.
Not just other red-foots do that, every tortoise does it in my experience.
I have to greeks and they go crazy for fruit.
Do make sure she doesn't get too much fruit though, the sugars are not healthy.
Living in Arizona, do you keep her outside all year long?
A red foot needs a space of at least 8 ft by 4ft once full grown. They eat fruits but not for main diet. Greens are best and animal protein once in a while. They can get up at 18". They are best outdoors but if inside try to take him or her out for some fun in the sun haha

I trust it would be hard to properly house a redfoot outdoors year round in Arizona. They should ideally have high humidity. The southeast is a different story.
