Red & gold arowana

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Oh an just one more thing, from what ive seen the 1.5 Banjar is not that ugly. When you have a choice of silver aro's or silver aro's a banjar makes a nice change i think. As i said before ive never seen anything other than silver. And i mean anything not even a jardini. We have extremely limited choice when it comes to monster fish unfortunately :(

Right banjar are dam ugly once they get big as they a dull body with no red the most you can hope for is a yellow-red tail

If it's a gold it will be red tail gold as the only other type of gold is a cross back which have a start price of £1200 just for a ok one

If it's a red then it will be a banjar 1.5 red with the prices you quoted as a grade 1 super red would cost £1400 for a ok one not the best but ok

You get what you pay for with Asian aros it's not like silvers black or jar were they have a basic price

As for micro chip and cert ALL asian aros should come with a micro chip and cert

As for taking a picture of the red it's hard to tell the difference between banjar and super red when the fish is small unless you know what to look for but still hard to tell from a pic

The cert is no guarantee what the aro is but it's a good start point with reds with golds it's not so much of a problem as rtg are the lowest type of gold and the grade of red tail gold is not that much different which is why rtg are such a good buy as if you take care of it then it will turn out nice when large

If buying ANY Asian aro make sure you get the seller to scan the fish to make sure the micro chip matches the number stated on the cert DON'T TAKE the sellers word for it

Asian aros are very easy to get ripped off with

Once again I can't point this out enough don't by a banjar red it was the 1st Asian aro I owned I grew it from 6 inch to 2 ft it was a dam ugly fish perfect everything apart from shine and colour nearly EVERYONE I know who has brought a banjar 1.5 red have sold it and got a red tail gold

Thanks very much for your help. I will definitely take your advice on board. I do not trust any LFS where i live, they are all just out to get money as i had to find out the hard way. Regarding the scanning equipment to be completely honest i doubt they have it. There are literally 8 fish shops on the whole island i live on. 1 of the 8 actually has a clue about fish the other employees are extremely underpaid and really do not care at all what they sell you. Just yesterday at one shop they were trying to sell a moray eel as a sea snake to a guy with a 20g tank.

The only thing i can think to do is take pic's an video if it helps an get as much advice from every1 on MFK as possible regarding an ID. Hope it is good enough as it will be my most expensive fish purchase so far. Just to give you an idea of pricing i paid $30 for a 6.5 inch silver arowana and they sell 4inch for $15. (if that helps in anyway)

Thanks again for your advice and opinions they are greatly appreciated

When they are imported most have the micro chip number marked on the bag then when the fish is removed from the bag the chip number is put on the tank glass but mistakes happen and any shop selling Asian aro should have a scanner they are cheap as they are the same used on dogs

Thanks for the info, i suppose only time will tell. Im really hoping its all legit, ill be so disappointed if they are not but what can you do.

The gold will be a red tail gold and they are a great fish and you will be very happy if you buy it

I got a rtg after my banjar and was so happy with and just up graded because I was offered a good deal but I'm lucky as my old red tail gold is now in a shops big display tank 10x3x3 so I still get to see it every now and then it's now 8 years old and still looks great

go to the shop and take a pic and people can tell you if its a red tail gold right away. also ask to see the certificate. it will tell you the variety. if you take the fish cause it says red tail gold and people say its an rtg you can be satisfied it is but you could always take it to a vet with a scanner to be sure its the same tag number as the cert says. it could be a red cross green or a red cross yellow tail. if they say so then thats ok but dont just buy it if the call it something or other and you cant ID it yourself.

Thank you. I have just been to the fish shop again on my lunch break lol They will be arriving at the end of the month. They have told me they do have the scanner to check the microchip so as long as it can be scanned and matches the cert i will buy it. However, i will defo be putting pics up here to see what you guys think before i splash out the cash. To be honest im kinda hoping it is a RTG as ive been reading every thread on here available and they seem like great fish and very beautiful as well. Although, if it does turn out to be a pure gold or red and i can afford to splash out the £1000/$1850 price tag that i have been quoted that would also be AMAZING.

Kinda glad they are coming at the end of the month that gives me time to get my tank ready for them as i am changing tank around completely to suit my arowana's. My original set up for for cichlid's so has a boat an other decorations in it at the moment which is pointless for aro's.

Really appreciate all the feedback i have no idea what i would do without you guys! Thanks a million, me, my wallet and my fish owe you all greatly!! :D THANKS MFK!!
