In one my my AFM issue that was discussing about breeding guppies; it said that "Reds are notorious fry eaters". Does this mean that red guppies eat more fry than other color variations? How could it be based on color? Thanks.

well i breed guppies...fancy and not... all color variations.. i dont bother to watch them give birth.. they have so many throughout a month im always over flowing... ive noticed they all eat fry... i guess the more visible ones are easier for them to spot on the bottom of the tank, although i have had a black batch recently with big numbers all make it.. thats a good question..

I would assume that any guppy eats their fry.

I know guppies eat their fry, but why would the color of an adult guppy have to do with it's fry eating habits?

Only reason I can think of is that a purebred red would have different genetics than a black just by virtue of having been linebred apart for so long. Maybe someone has observed that this has made a marked difference in fry eating habits but I doubt it. I personally think whoever said that was just off his rocker.

Regardless of the color, guppies eat fry if opportunity arises.
