Red head geos

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I'd put them in the middle. I use filter current to aerate my tanks, not airstones, and ime they neither particularly seek out or avoid the filter current, comfortable either way. Where they hang out in the tank is more about other fish in the tank, rocks or driftwood spots they like, etc, so I've had them hang out (or spawn) right by the filter or at opposite ends of the tank. One way or another, though, I'd say they want good aeration.

...Or, if this is what you're asking, filter current is sufficient, they don't need a whirlpool.

Probably depends on your overall tank setup, i.e. tank size, filter size, etc. Lot of times new fish in a tank will initially pick out a spot like that to hang out until they feel more comfortable and are ready to explore the rest of the tank. Not all fish, of course, besides the types whose first inclination is to figure out if they're safe in there, there's the types whose immediate inclination is to check out the competition and/or claim the tank (or part of it) as their territory.

I have them currently in a 55g theyre only 2.5" or so. But i have a 240 and a 480 ready. Also a 90 and a 125. Do you think they would get along with some roseline sharks as well? I removed the oto catfish i had with them because one strated sucking on their slime coats.

Yes they get along fine with Roseline's. I'd put them in a bigger tank ASAP since they are fairly aggressive towards each other. I had 5 in a 80 gallon tank and within 2 weeks I was down to 3. Now those 3 lived together for a year. I assume the male might have eliminated the other males in the group but they were to small to sex. If you do some research on this board you'll find several accounts of people reporting aggression issues with Red Heads

Wow, everyone has been telling be the opposite. I know theyre aggressive once they pair off. Ill move them to the 90 then for now

Mine killed each other when they were under 2"
My dominant fish started chasing certain individuals around. It seemed harmless enough since I never saw any damage until I turned the light on in the morning and a fish was dead.
