What size red heads are you getting? No way would I put them in the ich tank until it's been ich free for 10-14 days and even then, for me, it would depend on how it was treated. I wouldn't put them in a 10 gal either, unless they were no bigger than an inch or two. Any more than that and the only thing I might do would be to put them in the 10 gal just long enough to get a good look at them to assess their health/condition before putting them in a bigger tank.
Few years ago with the derecho our power was out 10 days (motivated me to get a generator later, none to be had at the time). We have a river just below our property and I kept my tanks going by doing daily water changes with the river water, huge amount of work. Result, though, was I had ich in my tanks for the first time in over 20 years, probably more like 25, can't even remember the last previous time. The red heads were more affected than some of my other fish.
By the way I treated with copper meds, initial salt and temp treatment had a limited effect, but I was also limited how high my temps could go because of the fish I have. In one of the tanks I had to overdose the copper a bit to get an effective dose. ...Almost forgot to state that personally, my preference from the start would be to get them in one of the bigger tanks, for me the ten would only be a staging tank, from an hour or two to a few days, how long depending on size. If the target tank would be the 55 (ich) I'd wait to order them until I was confident the tank was ich free, no sign of ich for at least 10-14 days. My opinion...
Don't worry, I'd never put these guys in the 55 while it has ich, treatment has been underway for a few days now, so hopefully it will be cleared in the next couple days. I've had great success with salt and heat treatment, so that's what I'm doing again.
These guys are only like an inch and a half, so I don't think 5 of them are too big to sit in a 10 for a couple days. What I can do is initially put them in the 10 for 2-3 days to monitor them, and then if everything seems good with them I can put them in the 75. Will the gravel in the 75 cause any issues for them?
..... or buy a larger QT tank.
Either way, always best to QT new fish in a tank designed for just that purpose.
Well the 55 used to be my quarantine tank until I decided to convert it lol.

You talking about long term, or for added time before going into the 55?
Because long term I'm not sure if these guys are going to end up in the 75 eventually, or a 125 that I will be getting within a year. The 55 will be their home for the next 6-8 months, and from there I am going to decide whether I want to transfer over the planted community to the 125, or the cichlids tank to the 125.
This is my first time keeping cichlids, so I wanna see which tank I like more.
Before adding them to a tank that currently is being treated for ich. Ich can last in a tank for close to 30 days before their complete cycle has been eliminated. I wouldn't rush it.
