Red headed cichlid tankmates??

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
You make some points, but with any large aggressive cihlid tank you'll always have a loss or two,
This depends on your approach to keeping them.If you just go for big aggressive cichlids in medium sized tanks, then yes you are likely to have casualties.
If you try to keep notoriously aggressive fish like flowerhorns in these communities then the likelihood of casualties is even higher.
Personally I hate the thought of fish dying due to my poor judgement,or just because I don't have the self control to admit to myself, this combo is risky, but so what,I want those fish.
There are enough cichlid and non cichlid fish out there that are perfectly compatible for every size of tank. There is also a wealth of information on the Web and forums like mfk.
The only things needed apart from the sources of information mentioned above is compassion for living things and enough self discipline to make the right choices.
This viewpoint has nothing to do with being a purist nor does it have any bearing on my view of flowerhorn compatibility.

Very well said. I think a lot of people make these mistakes in the beginning, and the good ones learn from their past failures. I know what you mean about personally hating the though of a fish dying, I feel the same way.

Why even start a thread and ask, if you don't want to hear the answer to your question? I have kept many fish, including several FH. My response was based on many years of first hand experience, if you feel you have it all figured out then just get on with it and do what you want in your massive 120.

New guy here, was sold a redhead female, I believe, as a geophagus eartheater. It's a good size and I was wondering if I could get y'all's opinion of the tank mates. I'm attaching a few pics of the fish and a video of the tank itself...

Welcome aboard:)

The Synspillum is a Central American specie. Also not a Geophagus specie. What size is your aquarium? This will determine what tankmates can be added if any. Experience members will chime in.

Sorry just realized you were talking about what was already in the aquarium. The Neon's may be eaten.
