RED HOOK SILVER DOLLORS WHY SO MEAN ???

OK I HAVE A 75 GL TANK AND THREE RED HOOKS THEY RANGE 4 TO 7 INCHES. I BOUGHT THE 75 AS THEY WERE STARTING TO KICK THE SNOT OUT OF EACH OTHER THEY WERE IN A 55 SO I COULD ONLY AFFORD A 75. SO THAT SHOULD WORK AND THEY HAVE TUNS OF SPACE. THE ONLY THING THAT SHARES THEIR SWIMMING SPACE IS 10 BLOOD FIN TETRAS AND THREE RED FLYING FOXES THAT ARE 3 INCHES. SO WHATS MY PROBLEM :confused: I MEAN THEY ARE BRAKING FINS AND TEARING FINS AND PUTTING PECK HOLES IN EACH OTHER. I MEAN I HAVE OWNED THESE GUYS FOR OVER A YEAR AND THEY HAVE NEVER BEEN THIS MEAN. THEY GET PLENTY OF PEAS AND LETTUCE AND FLAKE FOOD THEY EVEN LOVE THE ALGAE WAFFERS.

THE ONLY THINGS I CAN THINK OF IS THAT THEY NOW HAVE TOO MUCH SPACE. OR I HAVE TWO MALES AND ONE FEMALE ? AM I EVEN CLOSE?


ALSO MY HUSBAND THINKS WE MIGHT NEED ANOTHER MID SWIMMER TO BRAKE THEM UP, BUT WHAT ?? HE LIKES EARTH EATERS AND SOME OTHERS BUT WE ARE NOT SURE WHAT TO GO WITH. I MEAN YOU HEAR OF PEOPLE ADDING THIS AND THAT AND IT WORKS BUT I KNOW NOTHING REALLY ABOUT CENTRAL AND SOUTH AMERICAN FISH. I HAVE BEEN STUDYING HARD THIS WEEKEND ON THE NET AND FOUND LOTS OF STUFF BUT WHO TO BELIEVE.

FOR A TEMP FIX WE ARE GOING TO GO GET TWO MORE REG. SILVER DOLLORS AND SEE IF THAT HELPS. BECAUSE I AM AFRAID THEY MIGHT KILL EACHOTEHR BEFORE THE WEEKEND GETS HERE. :eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek: I GUESS I AM FREAKING OUT LOL HELP ME AND THANK YOU
 
If they're the actual Red Hook species they get the size of dinner plates. They're probably not though. Just like like most schooling fish-they'll fight in too small of groups.
 
Red hooks can be aggressive little buggers. Adding a few regular silver dollars should help, but adding a cichlid would help too. Something large enough to take the freedom of dominance away from some of the more aggressive males. (Jack Dempsey, Green Terror, Salvini, Oscar, Jag, etc.) The will probably still fight a bit, but hopefully they will calm down a bit.
 
How about adding a Green Terror? That will calm down those SD's. Like Echo said, there will be a little pecking but far less and probably no damage. Plus you'll have a much more interesting tank than what's in there now imo.
 
cool thank you all. as far as the real red hook i believe i had two but now i have one hes palm sized pulse some fingers too. the other ones haven't grown much past 3 inches though i bought some more red cooks at a much cheaper price so i can say that they will not get as big as my one is. so i got two more cooks and then 3 spotted like hooks. so now i have 8 so that should work plus i really love my hooks i will put up some pics of the really big one this weekend for you to give me info on.
