hot rocks wtf

the newer hotrocks have come a long way from the ones that shorted out 20 years ago. Pet care knowledge has made leaps and bounds in the last decade. For a good example look into how much progress has been made in parrot diets.

Hot rocks are better then what they used to be, however in my experience they still need alot of improvements...if they should be used at all, heat pads are much safer. Also hot rocks are not for igs or any other basking lizard.

I don't see the problem with a petstore selling young iguanas out of a tank that size. It's only temporary housing, and the less they spend on it the "less they have to charge you in the long run"

While i agree with you...the fact that I live in south dakota and it's not quite the mecca for reptiles changes things :D

Those guys have unfortunately been in there for quite awhile...I have seen them growing over the past few months. I'm not to sure about heat pads and hot rocks...I always hear those horror stories of them shorting out and such, or is that just an urban legend type deal?

No it isnt, that can happen but hot rocks are a much bigger hazzard then heat pads. Heat pads go outside the enclosure and they have to covered with substrate in order to be safe for use. "Safely" instaled hot rocks dont have anything between them and the reptile in case something goes bad.

the iguana itself looks to be fine and in decent condition but the price is WAY high. even half that would be too high for one of that coloring. You can actually get a blue rhino iguana for that price if you get it from kingsnake....

I agree on both issues! Heat pads are much safer, however watch them closely if you use sand substrate. And yes 250 bucks is way expensive for red igs. I bet the store didn't know what they were worth and paid too much for them. I paid $30 bucks for mine, but that was wholesale price (i work at a petstore). I would bet they would take 125 for them, since they've been there for awhile.

I agree. You won't catch any of my herps using one.
