Red Istlanum (COLLECTED)!!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
MFK, is kiddan confussing me and others I think with the Media Lounge section. So I will post in both places, but I will add this. The red coloration on throat, chest, belly and sides area in not visible in pics, as due to stress, is not showing at this time, but trust me the red is there and will return:

Here are some pics, again, I am NOT good at taking pics, of fish in tanks. The fish are very skittish and stressed, and are not in anyway near the color they were when freshly taken out of the river. The red is on the throat and chest and belly are, the strongest, with some red on its sides along with spangling. The body base color is a strong yellow. Very impressive, very beautiful. Some of the larger males had slight nuchal humps. They are under Clout treatment at moment. They are very shy and are all trying to hide behind the same rock. Will add more rocks and hope the relax a bit soon. This type is from Rio Amacuzac, and are under high competion with palgues of Convict cichlids and Green Terrors, that were released into this system and breeding like rats

Stunning Joe...

The Istlanum are from a solid 3" to a 4.5" and one big guy about 5" !!! I wanted some GT's as we pulled up a few whoppers at about 8", amazing coloration. Funny what natural sun does to bring out the best colors?? I am out of tank room, breeding beani and motas, and growing out Grammodes and Nouresattis, otherwise yes would have brought back GT's, even though thet are all decendants of Aquarium individuals. The locals leave the convicts in dirt when they fish em out, say they are the reason for the istalnum decline. Sucks because they are living creature, but I hate to admit, I am ok with that practise, as it is affecting the future of the Istlanum there.

very cool...how big were the istlanums? and did you bring back any gt's for the heck of it?

Thanks for the recommendation, but that was always the plan. I already have a pair that were paired in the river. Plus am keeping a "spare" pair. Once I know for sure there will be a bright fruitfull breeding future for a pair, I will sell off the extra one, just like I did with the Beani I brought back, and thanks to that my beani are taking care of wrigglers as I type this up! Thanks.

I would recommend you keep some to breed and grow the fry out for sale. Y'know, try to bring them more into the hobby.
