So I came home from work today to find my Istlanum pair spawning and grabbed a few shots with the phone. sorry for the crappy quality. The good pics were taken last weekend with my work camera.

TL, Male is about 6", female 3 1/2 - 4".

I will be putting the divider in tonight and this weekend removing all other inhabitants from the tank for the time being....I dont need another useless slaughter, especially of my loaches.

Thanks for looking.

Nice, that's awesome, Scott. You gonna try to grow them out?

Thanks Davey..good to hear from you. For the time being,if they get fertilized and I get fry, I think Ill leave them in the tank with the parent. Then in a month or so remove them and put them in my 75 to grow out. If you head this way, stop by and get some. You know where I live!

Thanks man, I agree! This is my first experience with them but I wouldnt describe them as a good community fish by any means. Theyve been ok with my convict, HRP and neet, but theyre in a 265 so have TONS of room because they are so small. I think they will be intolerable of any other fish in the tank at some point. If Im not mistaken, their aggression level is up there in the top 10 of cichlids. They are ex-cichlasoma istlanum 'red' from Rio Amacuzac in Morelos Mexico.

Congrats! Beautiful pair you got there! Would love to see some vids of pair.

Thanks Man! I wish I had a video camera. My phone takes crappy video so I wont even waste anyones time with one of those vids. Ill see if I can bring home or vid camera from work though. Ive been meaning to anyways.

Congrats on the spawn and great looking pair!

Great job! That's pretty cool that such a small female was able to breed so fast. I don't know too much about the species, breeding young and small could be normal. But I think it's great in any case.
