Great thread guys!!! They're both magnificent, I'd be happy with either but I love the bright color on the reds.
The Rio Amacuzac population are 'red' islantum but where do the 'green' islantum come from?

which is better red islanum or green

Personal preference determines the winner. The greens are harder to find nowadays but weren't the reds only introduced to the hobby a few years ago when JoeFatFish collected from Rio Amacuzac? Luckily they went to a few skilled hobbyists (Freshwaterpredators and GMfishnut come to mind) who bred and spread the fish around. I believe the red islantum ('tangerine' islantum ARE the same as red islantum) on most all vendor lists come from this collect trip.
Currently though, who still has a viable breeding pair from that trip?

Yup, the reds are readily available from Rapps and Conkel. No greens in the market as of now.

The green istlanum will have no red color at all?

Thank you.

Here is my 8'' green male, ordered from Rapps as a "Red". TBH After watching this guy mature I really like the green a lot. His growth rate is also a plus, he has a little bit more of a beastly body than the reds IMO.
