Red Jack Dempseys? Anybody ever selectively breed for the red in their tissue?

I saw some really red ones in "The Reef" in Indianapolis about a week ago. Very nice looking JD's. Different than what I have normally seen.

sign of good care
I'm not sure I'd go as far as to say that. Makes it sound like if it's not red, it wasn't healthy.....Which isn't true.

I wouldn't say red is a sign of health or sickness in a JD. But certainly the one pictured does look to be healthy.

I think you just have a really nice looking JD... In a male the red will turn jet black with the typical blue spots, unfortunately... The female will probably stay but it could fade to a grey...

nice JD guys

I've seen a few like these shown.
Most show a more purple tone, but Iv'e seen pinks & red too.

I even saw a JD that had marking, bars like a jag.
The body was mostly yellow, but it had a really interesting pattern.
Was tempted to buy but my fish are too mean for a juvie JD @ this point.
:D
