I mentioned this guy in my eel thread but figured I should start its own. I freakin' love this starfish, it's just totally wicked looking and looks gorgeous in my tank against the white substrate. It's carnivorous and I currently only keep anemone crabs in my tank, which are fast enough that it can't catch them. Everything I've read says I'm supposed to feed it chopped fish, clams, squid, shrimp, etc. How would I go about this, just place the food next to it or underneath one of the arms so it can then transfer it along to its mouth?

Yep i feed my stars when i see them just place it under that's what i do.

Just put a chopped up silverside underneath him. The site I've been going by says feed once per week -- is that enough for a 6"+ star?

Apparently I must have had a "special" anemone crab or I have a really fast starfish, because my anemone crab is now M.I.A....even though the starfish barely moved more than 2-3 inches from where I put him when I brought him home and the crab tended to prefer the opposite side of the tank. Do they bury themselves at all? Maybe he's just very well hidden.

any coral, anemone, clams etc... are no no's with them as far as feeding I just put a piece of food underneath them or beside them but prefer to put underneath so they eat it and fish don't go for it.

So he'll seriously be able to eat the stinging anemone tendrils? Damn. I mean, it's cool, I'm happy with it being just a FOWLR tank because he's just wicked cool and fun to watch. Just kinda liked this bright purple anemone I came across. :(

I fed him again today, he digests his food super fast. The first time I fed him the chopped up silverside, he expelled the leftover parts (bones, fins, etc) within 24 hours. So I waited 2 days and then fed him again today, and he happily ate it. Such a neat thing.

for starfish they do eat incredibly fast and can do alot of things people wouldn't realize until owning them.

they can regenerate parts of their body too...
