Red Knob Sea Star...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I seriously love this starfish, I have to say he's my favorite thing in the tank right now, probably running even with my bloodfire shrimp. I had looked at another sea star that was solid red, a cool neon blue one...but this guy just takes the cake in terms of beauty. He really stands out in the tank even with my live purple rock and the other decorations I have. Every single person that comes over refuses to believe me when I tell them he's a alive and not just a fake decoration. I have to have them look close and look at his little tiny legs sticking out feeling around from the underside of his arms. I say "he" because there's no way to tell what gender it is. LOL!

It's amazing how active he is, he moves faster than I thought he would and he likes to feel around and explore different things. He's only gone up on the rock twice, he seems to like the glass or the sand/crushed coral substrate better. He chills out and relaxes right after I feed him, and he seems to have developed a symbiotic relationship with my green spotted puffer. He stays on the same side of the tank that the puffer chose as his territory, and when the puffer sleeps at night, he lays on top of the starfish on either the center, or on one of his arms, and sleeps like all curled up like a puppy with his tail tucked to one side, nestled in between the red spikes. I've caught them like this every night since about the 3rd night after I brought the star home. Apparently he makes a comfy bed! It's just really neat to see. The star doesn't try to move away and obviously doesn't feel threatened because he doesn't suck his legs in, and the puffer doesn't pick at him whatsoever, he leaves him alone except for sleeping. If I get the chance to set up a larger marine tank someday, I would LOVE to have multiples of these stars because I just totally enjoy them.

you would probably love the addition of a brittle star and how active they are as well not as pretty as the red knob but unique in the own way
