Very hard to find true species of mammon out there. Much like finding true GM and Tan King. Although true GM and Tan King are way more expensive by 2X or 3X. And most true mammon I've seen average about $450 or so.
 
Like anything else, simple supply & demand at work. :)

Low grade Asian arowana can sell for a couple hundred dollars,
while very high grade aros can sell for $10,000+.
 
Absolutely, I worked in the antique trade for many years, and lost count how many fake and reproduction items that I saw passed off as being legit pieces.

The same thing happens in the fish trade every day. This is precisely why I am vehemently opposed to sellers who misrepresent their fish with photoshopped images, or use hormones or synthetic color enhancing agents in the water and/or food to artificially enhance the true color of a fish.
