red mangroves in freshwater... here it goes!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
How are those roots growing out? I'd like to have one mangrove tree with some massive roots as a focal point in my tank, but i'm thinking its not gonna happen. It would take too long to get the roots out too big, and I hear the tree doesn't take well to pruning, which would have to be done to keep the out of water part under control

well problem with mangroves they are very slow growing plants, i work at a salt water preserve so we have them everywhere, and by far one of the slowest growing plants around why exotic plants are very heavy in certain places.

so here is my long delayed update, the mangroves are doing fine, I have installed a new lighting system, canopy and moved them all to one tank. they sit now under 3 spiral compact fluorescents. 2 of those are 24 watt 4500k bulbs and one is a 13 watt 6500k bulb. together they create a rather nice light.

theyre slow but im pleased with their progress... here is the tank and the DIY canopy.
