In the shadow of death.....
I've been talked into purchasing a black shark (on hold atm) by my lfs under the pretense that it and my Oscar can co exist when introduced to a new tank (cycling) at the same time so there is no territorial bickering and given that the shark has somewhere to hide. Upon return from the fs i jumped on an Australian fish keeping forum where i was warned away from it by more than cautious members. Since then i've had conflicting info on wether to keep them together. So this will be the tenth and final opinion and this is where most of my inquiries end. Coz lets face it you guys know pretty much everything there is to need to know.

FSMK got it right, tank size is a major one, if its big enough for a 18-24" black shark it should be ok for both. But more info would be better

IMO the black shark (Morulius chrysophekadion), is the meanest most relentless fish you can buy. The one I had would chase, torture and kill just for the pure sport of it. This was at 11". They can easily get to 20" in most any tank. They are also extreme jumpers so a very secure to is needed. I would not recommend getting one.

Had a six inch one eat a hole through a 12 inch clown knife. Wouldn't recommend it.

Read some pretty crazy stories about black sharks. Even killing large guapotes like the Jags.

i have a 16" black shark that lives with 6 oscars, 2 jags, red devil, red bay snook, rtc, 6 plecos, 4 line pim, water cow and 3 tinfoil barbs. he is kind of aggro during feeding but otherwise very docile. eats out of my hand. so long as you have a very large tank i say go for it. 180 gallon at minimum.

black sharks are very very aggressive they had a big 18"+ in a 600 gallon at a lfs and it was killing huge fish left and right including huge pacu's, giant gourami's, budda's, and other big fish. kinda like a relentless carniverous pleco that just never stops sucking on big fish. i do not recomend you buying one. you never know how anything will turn out unless you try. but is it worth the risk?

Dang nammit, if you guys seen him...he's in a tank with a giant gourami and he's just timid and placid.....c'mon someone say something reassuring like he will be fine.........
I really need to know...because i was told sharks are good with oscars but you guys are telling me different.
Spec: 4x2x2 tank
1200 canister filter
I probably wont keep the shark for two long at least until he's 10''

Going to make this pretty clear.

Don't ask questions if you disagree with every answer that doesn't adhere to what you want to do. You've got 5 replies already saying it's not a good idea, but you want someone to say something like "it might work" for some kind of false reassurance so you can give it a crack anyway?

Trial and error is part of fishkeeping, but it's not acceptable when you have the internet at your disposal and choose to disagree with it.

1200lph Canister won't suffice on that sized tank if you plan on keeping Oscars either, unless it's a big Eheim.
