My MH lighting on my 120 went out, the balast. So there will be no pics available of my Jojo until I get the new lights on thursday. will be standard lights, which end up about $100 cheaper then a new ballast.:swear: :swear: :swear: :swear: :swear: :swear: :swear: :swear: :duh: :duh: :duh: :duh: :duh:

Don't need high lighting unless you are gonna do plants, and even then if you don't do hard core planting high lights aren't nesseccary. So your should be fine with just 'regular' lighting bro. I don't have any lightin on any of my tankz....right now anyway. They are in a sun room....i only have two tanks runnin right now that are 'mine'. Magans tank has a compact fluorescent on it, which is what you should use....for fresh water anyway...;). Cooler and more output, lower energy and all that stuff than regular lights.

Right, but the halides are for tanks deeper then 24", even pc do not do much good for a 26" deep tank, unless all of you plants are near the surface. But I decided to trade in the Halides any way, concentrating on Johanna's happiness. And since I have gotten him/her, Jojo (name till sexing size) has gotten alot happier looking. Doesn't look all dark and drab. It was kept in a 10 gal with abunck of other predators. IDK what kind they were, will try to find them. Now though, Jojo is kept in a 120 with lots of wood and rocks, and minimal light right now. So true colors will be seen on thursday when I get the new lights. It will be an 80 watt system. I am happy about that for 2 reasons, 1 It is no longer 90 in my room with the lights on, 2 eveporation will not be 5 gal a day. BTW I keep the 120 in my room because the reef is in the living room, and it too has MH lighting.

Yeah, I don't like my tanks any deeper than 24"....thats plenty enough! haha. For fish though don't really need bright lighting. Actually the dimmer lighting makes some species feel more comfortable.

Yeah, Jojo is quite happy, has already ate most of the ghost shrimp, and 4 rosies. BTW What would be the best flow rate for the filtration, currently have the Rena xp3, rated for 175 gal, flow rate of 350 per hour.

I had a Rena XP III as well on my 125, regular size tank. The spray bar doesn't provide enough circulation and I would get a film on my waters surface so i had to change it to the jet nozzle. I suggest you do the same. Angle it slightly downwards so you can get the most effective circulation possible. I had to add another powerhead because I just didn't feel like there was enough circulation and the fish weren't gettin enough oxygen. Its your call, but I do suggest addin a power head at the opposite end of the tank if possible...;).

Yeah, I was getting the film to, so I got a surface skimmer. Ironically, it allows to much air into the canister. What size powerhead do you recommend?

If there is air gettin into the filter make sure your intake is completely under water, that means all the those little connectors. Make sure all the joints are tightly pushed together and that the joints are all submerged. I know when the joints on mine got outa the water it would start sucking air...;).

The powerhead doesn't have to be too big. Here are some I found on www.aquabid.com that are cheap and more than enough! ;)

OR you could just put on another filter...never can have enough...;)

The surface skimmer has a floating head to st at the top. Once I figure out how to get the skimmer to stay where I want it to, should be no problem. What is the gph you reccomend for a Johanna?

Not the johanna...for the tank. You want to keep the water CLEAN, oxygenated, and clean. Crenicichla, especially the Lugubris group pikes, can get HITH easily...so the cleaner the better.
