He has eaten about 25 tetras over the last few months.
Last one went two days ago or so.

So, he is with a pleco and hopefully my loach is still there.
He has eaten pristellas, hy511s, and rummy noses.

I really don't want him to fly solo in there, as it was beautiful having silverish schooling fish in the background, his color really popped.

I was thinking congos, but not sure how many, and frankly I am not a huge fan of them.

Any other suggestions beyond tetras? He is about 6 or so inches right now, and he likes eating fish at night (obviously).

Suggestions welcome at this time :)

You can try giant danios as they are fast enough to avoid the severum. My giant danios are continuously moving about even at night where they like to swim at the surface of the water so that might solve the problem of your severum eating your fish at night

Your only safe bet are fish bigger than the Severums mouth. I.E. Myleus, Silver Dollars or Collosoma. Congo Tetra are large but their long fins make em slow.

If your tank is large enough go with a few tinfoil barbs. Or adult filament barbs are even better, both are fast as hell and very hardy.

Option 1. You can give me your red severum so my red severum have company. Im also in chicagoland area!

Option 2. I have about 15 lemon tetras on my tank and they are doing well, i have 3 severums in there about 4 to 5 inches.. so will see how the tetras hold as the severums get bigger. I have the tetras and severum in the same tank since the severums are about 1 inch.

Post some pic, i'd like to see your red sev.

As suggested, rainbowfish might well fit the bill. Also, if you can get hold of some decent sized bleeding heart tetras, they would also be excellent, and not as hectic as danios, barbs or rainbowfish might be.
All just dpends on what you like the look of really.

A good rule is that a deep bodied fish, like a bleeding heart, will not need to be as long as a slim fish to avoid getting eaten. I'd guess that you should be looking at getting fish something like 2.5"+ deep bodied or 3"+ slim fish.

Thanks for all the great ideas!

As far as deep body goes, he ate a few HY511s which are extremely close to bleeding hearts, when he was 4" he ate them - now he is close to 7".
The pristellas were on the deeper side and he nailed every one.

I like the idea of rainbow fish. I could put a powerhead in and they can school up nice in the current.

I will try to get a pic up today as the last time I took a photo of him was a few months ago and he has become a gorgeous fish with iridescent green on his fins, that won't show up on a camera.
