Sorry to bring up this very old thread. I am curious if anyone ever came up with an answer about breeding a red sev pair. Is it possible? My pair have laid eggs several times but the male likes to eat them before they even have a chance. Here is my pair:

In that photo they look like very well marked golds. But could just be the photo. I have heard of reds spawning but no fry.

Good luck they look great.

Yeah it's a bad pic. The are much more red. I have 3 large golds and they look nothing alike. I will try to get up a better pic.

Now this is a tad different, but I have successfully spawned a Red male with a turquoise female severum. Their first attempt their eggs were all eaten before any had hatched. On the second try they brought them to free swimming. I had heard Red males are often infertile, guess I got lucky?

SO what happen to the fry?

I have a Green sev, want a gold and red also. These pics here are fantastic

I actually (had) a Male Red Severum & Female Golden Severum pair. (The reason I say "had" is because my male just died today. :( )

Anyway, I had the pair for several years, and was able to get quite a few spawns from them. (I'm currently raising 30 - 40 baby/small Severums which are probably close to 6 or 7 months old).

To date, most of the resulting color is just that of the mother - regular ole' Golden in color.

I'm hoping that some, at least will develop those red streaks as they get older.
