Hi all,

My red severums have eggs but I'm not sure what to do... Clown loachs are trying to eat them!

Will they hatch? Should I move the rock to another tank? I've read that males are not fertile.

Thanks

In most cases, red severum eggs are not easy to hatch. It's said that they're sterile or have a very low fertility rate, but on occasion people have done it. The parents should be able to protect the eggs but once the fry go free-swimming all bets are off.

Good stuff! Good luck and hope they will hatch, my red severums are the poorest parents.

They look fertile. Bad eggs turn white. I would move eggs to a separate tank add methylparaben spelling? For egg fungus. then buy some micro worms and start culturing brine shrimp.

I've got a 10 gallon tank which won't really keep the 7inch serverums.

Should I move the whole rock? Will they need the adults? Ermmm one more... When should I move them?

I've stared and internal filer in my main tank so it can build some bacteria.

Thanks a lot!

If the parents have protected them this long, they should be able to protect them until they hatch. Severum eggs only take 2 - 2.5 days. At that point you should see dark eyes and tails wriggling. Then the parents usually move them to a pit or somewhere near the bottom of the tank. Mine hide them in piles under driftwood and the sides of flowerpots.

If the eggs are not good they will start to turn opaque after a couple days until the pair eat them. It's not always true that unfertilized eggs immediately turn white -- I had two female Heroina spawn and the eggs looked fertile for three days before they went white and the pair ate them.

Hi all

Thanks for you help!

Unfortunately all the eggs have gone white now. Sad days!

Does these mean they will never have any viable eggs? Or maybe it just the first time?

Thanks!

It's possible you may get some one day, but unlikely with super reds. The ones that have successful spawns seem few and far between.

I heard for years that golds were sterile, too, but I lucked out and found a pair who didn't have any trouble with that.

hi bro! i think we have the same situation but my red sev just laid eggs lately. but the thing is the eggs are in the glass of the tank not on the rocks i wonder why they didn't put it on rocks. how long the eggs will hatch?
