Red Snakehead Update

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I am kind of thinking the same thing about bare bottom.

I have never liked the look, sterile and unnatural, but it sure does seem to take a load off cleaning.

At the moment I have sand and river rocks, I only have to vac the surface, but the sand often gets everywhere.

Sqratch - do you simply have the powerhead down low, and an intake on the other side of the tank?

Sorry to hijack your post Sqratch. But this is a filter system I am working on at the moment for one of my 6 fts works really well. Full of bio balls heater sit in it. Ok you loose a bit off the tank space but no pipes wires etc. Would work well on bare tank.

I use to hate the look of barebottom tanks. And I would only ever do this to my micro. Someone on this site said usually when u get fish you get fish for your tank, if you get a red it is the tank. I usually like making my tanks look as natural as possible.

I have two cannister filters, one is a cheapish one the other is really good. I have one in take on either side of the tank. On the left side of the tank is the intake for the weaker filter. The output for the weaker filter is also on the left. It goes along the side of the tank and points down pushing all the waste to the right side of the tank. The stronger filter output is along the whole length of the tank. The input is on the right hand side. I modified the intake. I cut the pieces of the intake grill so the grill is only 1/8 of an inch from the bottom. The powerhead is on the left side as well and is on a low setting pointing towards the stronger filter input. Because i modified the intake of the stronger filter so that the intake is smaller there is more suction and so pulls in poo from a further distance. Cleaing is soo easy. Just water changes and monthly filter changes and cleaing the intake grills of the filters. There is no poop. Got the idea from neo

Its all good. Is that filter built into part of the tank? Thats a pretty cool idea. I've seen it used in shops that specialise in plants.

That’s the sort. Blank off the end of the tank 6 inches or so put a grill at one end this goes over a series of wears through sponge then up over into bio balls dragged through them with a power head and then blown clean out into the tank .Its basically a sump but on the side and no danger of flooding.

The redline would eat the tail of the catfish (tsn X rtc). I know because I done it. Lost the catfish. A larger Jardini would go great with the redline... :)

You got a beautiful fish.
I know, because I got 3 just like him. They are a bit bigger I think, because they have lost they`r colour. They are mostly white/yellow, with big black writings on top of they`r backs. I lost the biggest one, sinse he jumped out of the tank last night. They have never jumped before.... I got them at December 5. 2005. Then they were about 3" long. And now they are about 12" long, so oh yeah, they grow fast....
But anyway, you got a great fish! Just wait untill he gets his teeth.....:woot:
Keep on posting info on your "badboy"..
I Hope the best for the both of you:headbang2
Best regards
Thomas
