guy at work bought two of these at petsmart and now doesn't want them. i will try and get pictures, but i was wondering if anyone owned one here or if anyone had any pics of one that was full grown. i have the room and might grab them if anyone can give me some information as google/yahoo aren't too helpful.

thanks

You can google either red bay snook or Petenia splendida.

Mine are about 12-14" and have all but stopped growing. However, I figure they're happy since they're spawning for me.

That's a lot of fry oddball. Are you going to keep all infinity of them?

nasty fish, v aggressive from what i have seen of my freinds

You must be thinking of a different fish. Either that or you're friend has the 1 in 1,000,000 with a bad attitude.

Actually, I have owned 3 over the years and have found them to be quite placid until spawning. They are Basket-Mouthed fish and while they may try to act tough, they are no match for other CA/SA cichlids of similar size with teeth.

They prefer live foods but I have mine trained to take frozen krill/shrimp.

I have been looking for the regular colored ones for years with no luck.

Great fish to own as long as you don't have them in with others who are aggressive with the means to kill. ;)

VERY mellow, and never see them even acting tough. They eat smaller fish with gusto, but also eat pellets and flakes. Slow growers, and don't get quite as big as they are "supposed to"

i have a spawning pair of red bay snooks.. unfortunately i believe they are too young or too stupid to actually get the eggs to hatch. they spend a lot of time defending territory that no one else wants anyway and pretending they are tough. But they really aren't, the catfish (1 RTC and 1 TSN) just swim by without even giving them a second glance.
