Red Snook Cichlid?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i just got a snook today that's 4-5 inches. i put him in my 125 with a jardini arrowana of about the same size. lots of hiding spots and fast moving water for my false tigrinus, also frequent live food. there is also a 8 inch clown knife and a green severum at about 3 inches. think he will do ok?

these are pretty sweet fish But at 30 bucks it tends to stay at the store a long time. Sizes i have read 16-21 inches Yes, the picture tags at petsmart States 8 inches And i agree some of the sizes stated are no were near their actual full grown size, But as a Manager in the fish Department at a petsmart we have no control or say in what goes on them. if the person helping you Knows a wide spectrum of fish they should know. :)

But as i say at work any questions you just let me know.:headbang2

My buddy had some at 15 inches, but they were pretty peaceful fish. They usually got owned by much smaller Jack Dempsey's and Oscars and such. They ate anything they would fit into those bucket mouths.

You can google either red bay snook or Petenia splendida.

Mine are about 12-14" and have all but stopped growing. However, I figure they're happy since they're spawning for me.

oh im jealous of you odd. cant wait to get mine to spawn.

hey whats the rate of growth of red snooks. I was planning on getting an inch long one and keeping it in my 10gal until it grew out. I obviously wouldnt keep it there forever, but how fast do they grow?

How do you know if red snooks are breeding? ours locked mouth for about 2 minutes, and we wernt sure if it was good or bad? Is that a mating sign?
