My female that is currently 14".

Ashdavid's female was the largest I'd seen (of male or female). If Bruce's male is 15", that's the new largest I've seen. With so many of these coming out of PetsMart you'd think at least a few of them would be floating around at 18" if they reached that size...

And just because everyone is posting some photos up, here's my 12" male.

since they have soft mouths they shouldnt be kept with oscars and midas? just saw one at petsmart and thought it looked cool but wanted to research first. in a 10x5 footprint indoor pond would become a 13x5 next summer.

My male is right at a foot. I've probably had him for a little under a year now, and he's still growing. He had a spell (while breeding) where he almost stopped growing for a couple months, then once separated he exploded again. He's put on another inch over the past month to month and a half. Boggie's is the biggest I've seen (granted only in a pic). I remember when he got it at like 13". The length of time since, and the 2" of additional growth, gives hope to continuous growth. The biggest I've seen in person other than my own, was a female probably just a bit larger than my male. All that said, I have searched the net, books, everywhere, looking for these 18" beasts, and have yet to find anything remotely close.

I've seen them in tanks with lots of different mates, including oscars and midas. It all depends on the particular fish. I have mine in with non aggressives (sev, a. diadema, a wuss gt), as well as aggressives (jag and middle road aggressive jd). I think the way it worked for me was to have him as one of the first in the tank to get a little size on the others.....but not enough to try and eat them. If you're talking about in a pond that size....no problem.
