Red-tail Aro

IMO, diet can have a huge effect on coloration in both black and silvers. Diets high in beta carotene and krill (I.e. hikari carnivore sticks) have a huge impact on silver's retaining red color in the fins. I've seen some silvers with beautiful red-irridescence on the outer edge of each body scale that was feed nothing but krill and hikari. It changed hands, started eating feeders and a lot less krill, and lost it's beautiful red in a month. Also, excess beta carotene is not a good thing for black aro's, because as adults it replaces their beautiful blue irridescent color with red and makes them look much more like silvers. Regardless, great find and good luck.

some people feed their aros with superworms fed on red pellets. this can result in a reddish tail color. i hope yours is the real thing, red tail silver is indeed a rare find :)
