I still can't believe my gf bought me a 3" RTC. She said it was the cutest thing she'd ever seen. I applaud the effort, but I'm going to have a problem on my hands in the coming months. I was thinking of getting some pond liner and covering one of those kiddy pools from kmart? Then I'll run a small wet/dry and do weekly water changes. Sound possible?

That is possibble, yes pondliner over kiddie pool is good, i think kiddie pools have chemicals that can hamnr fish, way to go on the liner

make sure you get the biggest kiddie pool you can find or afford.

www.gemplers.com

I don't think they carry the 450 or 650gal anymore. The biggest one I saw lately was the 400gal.
Check your local feed & grain or agricultural supply stores. You can probably find one there and save on shipping. I order directly from gemplers because I got a price break by ordering 20 bins at a time.

Do you guys think a sand filter intended for pond use would suffice for filtration, in company with weekly water changes of course?

U mean pressurised sand filters?... it should suffice provided u have a good mechanical filter first so that it doesn't get clogged up so easily.
