red tail catfish growth unbelievable

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
If feed is the major impediment, one may be able to get creative. There is lots of possibilities. But priorities is a different matter. Usually, not much play room there :)

Love the shot with the little troublemakers :)

Ha thanks my 2 newphews not sure they were much help.food is about 80 to 100 quid a month i could get that down abit, get a bargain with sprats over here which i love as there not oily and not much resists them, i get 12 medium to large sprats for 1 quid if buy in bulk.rest is massivore worms pellets prawns.thing mainly that puts me of is theres so many other catfish i want to keep but also dont want too much overcrowding so going to keep one of each species.(we are spoilt for beautiful catfish available)

Yes we are.

The feed sounds very expensive. I speak with fish market people and usually they have frozen fish they can let go of cheaply, not always sure of the reasons but it's true. I used to buy 25 lbs for $15 of low quality (poor taste to humans) marine fish called spot. That lasted me a while and I had ~300 lbs of fish to feed. I've no idea why the market owners had it in their freezers - they were Koreans and barely spoke any English.

One can make a deal with a fish market or a fish dept of a store. They have loads of cutoffs, culls, etc. which are perfect for feeding our pets.

Or one can fish.

Yeah not thought about some of those options only just realised switching my electric company could save me so much.i do have a fish market not that far away i will ask around next time im there.thankyou. i did try fishing tackle shops but they couldnt match what i pay now for sprats on any off there fish.

Hi, I have 2 RTC that I obtained on Nov. 2013 both were 4'' in size. In the first year their growth was very fast but it slowed down now or actually nearly stopped. Their sizes are 14'' & 16'' now. I feed 3 times a week with white fish fillet and frozen shrimps and sinking pellets. Is there any recipe for faster growth.

Something's wrong with your RTC or the way you keep them. 1.5 year old RTC should be over 2'. Maybe they are not RTC?

I am sure they are RTC her is a pic

They are now in 180 gallons tank but soon I will transfer them to 550 gallons tank

They sure are :) They look good. It can be misleading but their body proportions tell me they are bigger than 14"-16". Instead of hijacking this thread, may I suggest you create your own? We need to know much more about your husbandry to be able to understand your situation and offer possible solutions.

They are great looking RTC. great pattern on them but you will get stunted growth from them in 180 gallons get them in the 550 and they will continue to grow.any aggression between the 2? Agree get a thread started uo and some more pics! ☺
