Sorry if this has been asked before but i searched and searched and couldent find any posts answering my question anyway I have a red tail catfish that is 5-6 inches long I have been feeding him a large variety of foods anywhere form shrimp to pellets the pellets I feed him were hikari carnivore sinking pellets well those ran out so I purchased the hikari Massivore because I thought It would fill him up quicker and he is getting bigger anyway.. However he will not touch the massivore but he ate the regur carnivore ?? How can I train him to eat massivore or is he still too small for the massivore please ant help I ran out of the smaller carnivore and all I have is the massivore but I don't want to keep on feeding him other things besides pellets because I would like him to eat a variety and not get too attached to one certain food and I would like to feed the massivore as a staple with other types of foods every once in a while

Also sorry for all of the questions I'm new to red tail catfish and any large catfish at that and I realize I made a huge commitment in buying him so I would like to do things the right way and as best I possibly can

never broke a RTC onto other foods but it can't be much different then any other fish, just don't feed him for a few days then just put small amounts of massivore in and it will eat if its hungry enough. only present it with massivore for a while in the fashion I described I did the same thing recently w/ my ornate and red wolf, but I was trying to get them on tilapia fillet and freeze dried brine shrimp as the staple.

also is your tank the right size? red tails do not do good in tanks not big enough and could be not eating from that

usually a few days of not eating and he will attack massivore. if he is eating fillets you can try to sneak a few pellets in there so he gets used to the taste, but they are pretty much bottomless pits and if he is turning down massivore id just not feed for like 2 days and try again. better idea would be getting him to eat cheaper food like NLS, massivore ets very expensive when you are feeding by the handful(and that wont be long from now)

agree w/ this also not sure where in cali exactly you are but if you are near the water it may be more cost effective/healthy to buy from the local fisherman/seafood market ect. stuff a few NLS pellets or other high quality pellet to give missing vitamins ect. I found my cats have grown the best on a mix of pellets and fish fillets/ect obtaining smaller fish that are whole (heads/guts intact) are actually even better then stuffing fillets. I'de still stuff them w/ pellets but the nutrition content is much better then fillets alone.

I stopped feeding massivore a few weeks ago now as it was costing us more to feed our 2 catfish then it was to feed our 2 cats ( and I have our cats on a pretty expensive grain free diet) 60$+ a month...

Gonna go back to stuffing cheap good quality fish w/ NLS pellets. though our hybrid will eat the pellets or the fillets/whole fish the TSN is more picky so we have to hide his pellets in the fillets.

Grind up a little bit of chicken and the massivore pellets together and roll them into a ball. Freeze them than drop them into the tank he should eat them. Used this trick on both of my red tails.
