Red Tail Catfish - possibel tank mate?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yeah just realised how massive they get ( not after anything giant), the LFS had rather small ones about the size of a little finger.

just need a bottom feeder(s) because an oscar is a very messy eater.

any other catfishes in mind? ( apart from the common pleco)

Thanks everyone

Jim

get one of those large intex pools, set it up and then consider a rtc or other large cats :)

I'm glad you asked before you brought it

There are many catfish out there you could pick from go over to planetcatfish.com they have neat pixs there are some catfish that cannot be with aggressive oscars as they do not have protective plates when the oscars decide to pick on the bottom dweller

TONS of species just narrow it down to the ones with plated armors or provide your catfish with plenty of hiding spaces to protect itself from the oscars

go over to the catfish subsection of the forum and do search on oscars and catfish and see what other keepers were able to keep with their oscars

cheers and good luck

A smooth catfish would be an Achara Cat-though you may need to upgrade to something bigger like a 8X2X2-I have had them with my cichlids-gorgeous cat that gets around 24-30 inches and won't eat your cichlids. Maybe a SunCat but get yours around 6 inches they grow slow and if in a large tank and fed well can get to 14 inches. One other cat that might work is a Lima Shovelnose Cat-18 inches and nice looking as well.

yeah it makes me sad that RTC's are being sold-they should be pond only pets..
