How big do they get in the home aquarium? How long can I have one in a 110g tank? And do they need periods of fasting (not eating)? I'm looking at getting a redtail cat, and I just want to cover my bases before jumping in over my head. Thanks for your help.

Big, at least 3' if not more. It would out grow your 110 in less than a year. So unless you can get something at least 6' long and 4' wide minimum I wouldn't suggest getting one.

Wow 3' plus. I was thinking in the neiborhood of two feet, and that in 3-5 years. Without thinking a 110 is way inadequate, given that it will out grow it in less then a year. Thanks for you help.

you're looking at 2 ft. in about a year or less!!!

ive had mine for about 2 years and hes 16inc
i might be wrong but i think the growth rate may be partly down to the individual

Your best bet is budget for a tropical pond or don't bother as they can get to 6 feet long. Take a look at these monsters.
