Red Tail not eating???

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
just wait...
maybe he is eating.
when i got my redtail i thought he wasnt eating.
btu i stayed up one night and saw him take one or two feeders.
next morning he looked empty.
im starving mine too.
but giving him a feeder or two every now and then til he learns to eat non live.

Just to give everybody confidence and reassurance. It can be done. I have two. They both now eat chunks of fish under normal aquarium lighting.

They do fill up quite quickly and its not always visible in there stomach. I have also found if fed larger amounts they will not eat every day.

A lot of good information in this thread. I am having the exact same problem with the one I just got. I threw a feeder in, it snapped at it, let it go and I haven't seen it go after another one. Looks empty, too. I wish I would've been able to quarantine it before putting it in. Are they really stubborn or are they like most fish and will eventually eat if you starve them? I really hope mine comes around. Getting pretty worried about it.

Do you think I should just keep starving it now until it eats what I throw in there or should I get it to eat a couple feeders before trying to starve it? Is it best to try w/ the all the lights out and look to see if it has eaten by how it looks or turn lights on so I can see it actually eat? It's going to suck if I have to feed all of my fish feeders.

Finally saw it eat ONE rosy red. Gonna try the rest I got tomorrow, then I'm going to "starve" it for 2 weeks while I quarantine some more feeders. I'm going to keep throwing the kitchen sink in that tank (fish filets, bloodworms, beefheart, turkey, shrimp, veggie wafers, sinking pellets) and hope it starts eating some of that.

Most deff keep the starving going. I just bought 2 new Tats, so I have 3 now.
I put the market shrimp on hold until the new ones get more comfy.
I will probly go back to the starving diet on Monday.
I never tried to throw in silversides with the lights out, as a matter a fact never fed them in the dark. I always try to see them eat (that might change now:D).
Keep it up and dont give up:headbang2:headbang2:headbang2

Thanks. I will do what I said I would do in my last post.

west1,any aggression going on in them?
yea.
tats can be stubborn buggers.
mine occasionally ate when i didnt watch during the first mth.
but now he follows me around waiting for feeders.

ya it always takes them a few to settle in. plus having friends to play with helps too
