uro, as you can see the caudal spot takes up more than half of the tail.

is it dead or just out of tank for pic?

Lol Thats what i was thinking! LOL!

scull craca has a festae in his avatar notice how small the spot is smaller, also looks to be female but can't tell for sure if dark is from the log or it's dorsal fin. The bars are a good indicator also but they are not always so visible, I have never seen the spot be wrong yet though.

You'd probably need to use layman's terms for corny here. Like most beginners, he probably doesn't know what a "caudal peduncle" is. Anyway, it's the posterior part of the body that is tapered in immediately anterior to the caudal fine.

www.fishbase.org should have some decent fish anatomy info.

well i went to the lfs and got six true green terrors and to me the look way different then the false , without looking at the spot i can tell the difference , the false is darker and the true one are real light

There's no way one could sex that uro without a good shot of an upright dorsal.
A good indicator of a female would be a black blotch on the dorsal. That or venting, but I do have to say waiting to spot a dorsal is way easier lol.

Green terrors are way different than either Red Terror or False Red Terror. :)
Green Terror would be an Aequidens sp..
Red Terror is Amphilophus/exCichlasoma festae.
False Red Terror is exCichlasoma urophthalmus.
