Red Terrors and Piranhas???

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I'm can't say yes or no either way, but I'm curious how big the tank is?

I can say I would never put piranha in with my gorgeous Festae in my little tank.

Fastae will be to much for them. If the RB dont kill them the first day, their days will be numbered. The Fastea will start to chase them and stress the RB out. They will injury one of the RB and the other RB's will take him out. This will repeat until they have one RB who will not last long. eather way dont do it

Expect the fish skelotons in next morning.

Shed Aquarium had large piranhas (around 12") with small ones (around 6"), as well as large oscars and some large earth eaters. Very nice set up. Not sure how long it lasted, or if they still have it. But, the piranhas acted like normal fish. The Piranhas seemed to hate each other more than the other fish. The Oscars would swim right up to the larger piranhas and the piranhas would just turn away until the oscars passed. The piranhas were noticalbly larger than the 12" or so oscars, and probably twice the weight of the oscras as well. Might have the same reaction with Festaes, or might not. But, most schooling piranhas (red breast) are very shy.

are you sure they were piranhas, lol? I didn't think they got that big. Any idea what species, at least?

The only fish I had successful with P'S are plecos, pacus, and silverdollars. I tried oscars, JDS, and Jags but they killed them.
HAPPY HOLIDAYS

Well, I didn't mean that kinda of way. He's stupid as in our African Exhibits should've been done by this year, but they're not. I'm probably going to go this weekend and check things out. They have a saltwater exhibit in the South American building, and hopefully, just hopefully I can convince him to turn that into Freshwater. I don't know, I'll see and hopefully I can talk to a zoo keeper while I'm there.

If you value your job, you may want to be a bit more careful about what you type in public forums. I'm just saying this in the very remote chance that your boss may come across this thread. I'm refering to the "he's stupid" remark.

I don't work there, otherwise I wouldn't have said so.

I'd say its a waste of fish to put anything with Ps. I had a pair of breeding cons with my RBPs and it appeared the cons ruled the tank. They constantly chased away and harassed the RBPs until one day I guess the Ps had enough and the cons disappeared. The Point is that breeding cons are pretty damn aggressive and as timid as the Reds seemed it still didn't stop them from eating them one day.
