I have both GT's and RT's, and they are both great fish to keep. The only negative on the RT is that they are not nearly as personable as GT's. I have 3 festaes, and they will hide all day if they could. The GT's on the otherhand are always swimming in the open begging for food or flaring at people.
Female festaes may be prettier fish depending on who you talk to, but the GT's (gold saum) are stunning in their own right.
I wish I could have a tankful of festaes and GT's in one large tank. That would be an amazing display of cichlids!

if everyone else is going to show their pics, then I might as well throw mine out there as well.
my male is ~10" and the female ~7". they usually will grow to at least a foot long, but males can get up to 16" or so though I've yet to hear anyone even claim to have a male that large.

). that picture is almost a year old. he's quite a bit thicker and his nuchal hump is a little bigger. Jason_S your Festae are looking great. Post some more recent pics when you get a chance, I would love to see how your Festae look now. The pics I posted are kind of old too.

you know what's funny about that though is that it's only like that on the one side. the bars on her other side aren't like that. also, I'm pretty sure the male is the same way. when they breed and his bars come out, he has a doubly Y only on one side.
as for spawning, yeah they've spawned numerous times, but have still yet to attempt to raise the fry for more than 2-3 days after they become free swimming. same thing always happens...the fry become free swimming, and then they start to disappear. I could separate the fry if I had all my tanks setup, but that's something I'm not too worried about right now.
