Red terrors

it would definitely take a while to get to that size...like 5 years or more I'd bet. also, you'd probably have to keep it alone as well. I had a pair for over 3 years that had been kept together. they tried spawning several times but never did raise up the fry. the breeding though slowed the growth even more than their already typically slow rate of growth. when the male died he was about 10" and the female was about 7". those are the fish I'm the most sick over losing since I had to move several months ago.

So, jason you've never actually had an 18" RT? Do they thrash all fish with them even at a small size? I'm asking cuz, I'm wondering, is it possible to buy a juvvi 3" specimen,n grow it out in a 65 g. high for say a few years, and possibly with other similar sized cichlids? would it be a bad idea even for say a year?

my mates red terror just died...had sumthing wrong with it's eye, anywayz that would bash his 4 other tiger oscars all the time! and the oscars were bigger than he was...twas a crazy fish..

what are the dimensions of a 65 high? you could probably grow one out in that size tank for a year to a year and a half. I'm not sure it would last much longer in that size tank. and no, I've never owned an 18" red terror. they take a looooooooooooong time to reach that size. :)

I want an 18 inches red terror :D

Jason, I got a 1.5 inch red terror a few months ago, currently around 3 inches. What do you expect it's growth to be within a year? Or within a year, whats size do male red terrors usually achieve?

He's in a 180, and eats a lot, varied diet.

with a ton of water changes, a big varied diet and regular feedings, and no possibilities for spawning you might get him up to 7 or 8" but I wouldn't expect more than 6" just to keep you from disappointment. that also depends on the sex of the fish too. my male was pretty consistently 1.5-2" larger than the female. :)

The 65 g. is 36"x 18"x24" high. my 60 g. is just a taller 55 g. I think its like 2" higher. I currently own a 65 g. high, a 60 g. high, and a 40 g. high, The red terror would most likely go in the 60. an lfs around has em for 4.88 each at 3". They have great color and are such cool looking cichlids, I want one.
