Red Texas Cichlid

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Ive actually got a question about them. If i crossbred one with a regular texas cichlid, then would some of the offspring be red? just curious.

awww, come on. Nobody knows. Would it be similar too what happens with the electric blue jack dempsey.

Couldn't mate a red texas with a red texas. Has to be a red texas with a regular red texas, then I'll get a few red texas as a result. :D

I just brought back my africans, only got 54 dollars for them though :swear: :swear: :swear:, but I do have that little red-texas on hold just for me, and I'm gonna pick him up in a few days so i can get everything ready for him.

I do have a question about my tank decoration though. I have tiny gi joes that i want to decorate the tank with , but i want to know if theyre toxic. I dont want to poison the little guy to death, seeing as how hes costing me a pretty buck. :D

I am not a huge fan of flowerhorns (except the ones with really big nuchal humps), but the red texas is an exception. Picked up 4 and grew them out for a couple of years. NOt the $200 ones (haven't seen 1 in real life). 1 was a dominant male, and by chance WAS turning red - at 5", already a real looker. Then I bought some GTs that introduced Ick into my tank. That red texas was the only fish that died. 1st fish I lost to ick in 10 years... So mad... Justice was served though - my GTs didn't last very long. They couldn't keep up to my other Centrals, and eventually got killed and eaten, even though they were an 'average' sized fish in that tank.

Anyways, my 'regular' looking 2nd male is in my gallery.. Should update that pic - he is now much 'showier', though not what you would expect in a Red Texas. Might be trading him in for some food, as I need the room.

Hope your's is red! Post some oics when you get him in!
