Red Texas, FlowerHorn or a Red Devil (or a Green Terror maybe)? I am considering these for my 240gal. Tankmates will include SilverDollars,ClownKnife,Dat,ClownLoaches&RoyalPanaque. The SDs, CLs and RP all have a head start on growth, with the Dat & CK being pretty small. I want to get a baby(/babies) cichlid to grow up with them. Which would u choose? Why? How many can I put in? Pics? I am not very familiar with cichlids, so give me the basics on these PLEASE. Thanks.

Green terror, beautiful colours one of the best looking fish i have seen.

Risky for any of them but the tanksize makes it possible. Id try and RD because if it doesn't work out and you have to part with the RD your wallet won't hate you as much as it would with the FH or RT.

I've kept RDs that were ok with tankmates but NEVER had a FH that would. Though your tanksize definitely gives you alot of flexibility.

Anything $60 or less per fish I am willing to buy 1or2 and risk it. For me the reward of an exceptional fish is worth it. I wont commit hara kiri over that much if I lose em or have to give em away.

I would say RD, but... I would have to say Barred midas if you can. I can't stop thinking about how beautiful they are.

Barred Midas would look good. P-bass might also be an option. Whatever you get make sure it can stay away from the mouth of the Knife, especially if the knife has a head start. How big is the knife?

Red Texas and Flowerhorns are hybrids and 99% of the time will not tolerate a community tank, in my experience, and any Red texas or Flowerhorn that is halfway decent looking is usually WELL over $100 (just type either in on aquabid.com and youll see what I mean).

Its also my experience that a semi to mature red devil (6+inches) is not capable of living in a community either. They are persistent chasers and will harass until removed.

As far as a GT....I personally wouldnt. I see a lot of threads on here of people with sick ones.

You might have better luck with a solo (or possible combo of) carpintis, midas, possibly trimac, mota, freddie or anything in the vieja family if you are looking for color.

Knife will actually be picked up at lfs wednesday. Supposed to be about 3-4". Also I have a bunch of planted and floating fake plants as well as a bunch of driftwood- lots of hiding spots.

RTs over a $100 and already showing color at a really young age? Baensch edition I have is a little out of date taxonomically, so I have had trouble IDing all the Vieja species. I am not very familiar with cichlids aside from some Oscars I have raised over the years, so don't know what these species (?) names are that you are using. Were these the fish that for a while were kinda associated with Cichlasoma genus? Clarification? All Vieja species? Did they get reclassified in last ten years or so?
