Red Texas or Carpintis?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I am aware of that lol. But not all fade or have a red or Orange base. I do understand that many fade at a larger size but to me calling the non red products of this cross what they actually are feels a little better than telling people that all fry from this cross are "red Texas". Know what I'm saying?

Regardless if they are red or not doesnt mean they arent red texas. Some fade some dont. To me, they are still red texas for the simple fact that its in the genes. You can get red fish from RT's that dont fade..of course chances are more slim..

Pretty sure these are gonna be known as the Petsmart red Texas like it said above because these fish have caused a good bit of discussions on why they really are and what quality they are they're great fish I have two and they have a great personality they were only 6 dollars and I'm not so crazy about what they really are they are just great fish to have they add a lot of personality to my SA tank

Well I guess its just my opinion but if hybrids don't obviously express hybrid traits they should not be available at places like petsmart or petco. They should not be bred by farms like segrest. Who wants a hybrid that doesn't look like a hybrid what's the point? Not saying they can't be cool fish.

Grow them out and see what happens.

We are looking at the Petsmart Red Texas that are mostly 2 inch babies, usually you don't expect much to see when they are that young, as a fact, all hybrid such as Flowerhorn, Red texas are not showing 50% of their traits at young age, so keep looking for 2 inch red Red Texas, you will be empty hands for a long long while.

It is true that you won't see a lot in the younger fish. That wasn't the point I just prefer to get my hybrids from someone dedicated to breeding them not big box pet stores .
If you want to be like that though I have one that's about 1" right now showing red color on fins and around the gills and belly. I know it came from high quality breeders. I rolled it myself ;)

At 1", Red Texas displays some potential of fade to red on fins, belly...but not red, if you got red on parts of your Red Texas, you are lucky, and must have paid lots of bucks on him. some are either lighter or darker color at young age, but that won't determine which one will have more red thant the other when full grown, what should we call a Red Texas when it is unfade when young?

I don't know but I'm not calling a fish that is green a red anything lol. I just see a lot of people being disappointed when their fish arent turning red. The high cost of true rt and srt is due to the low number of them occurring per spawn (unless the breeder has been at it awhile and has a pair throwing a higher % of the desired fish).

^ Dude it's just Petsmart RT. Walmart Blood Parrots don't looks like any regular blood parrots, should we calling them Red Devil x Synspillum? They just labeled them as Red Texas, Flowerhorn and Blood Parrots, since it's basically same fish, just crappy quality. If the breeders want a high quality RT, they won't come to Petsmart, Petco or Walmart as there are better sources to get these high quality red texas.

^totally agree. The tag at Petsmart on the tank just shows a large white chiclid with few red spots not a very red and definitely no super red Texas but all the same they are the Same fish just low quality
