Red Texas or Flowerhorn?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
It looks like a kamfa to me. Nice one. Did u got him on petsmart?
No I got him from a local fish store. He was traded in because he was getting so large. He was turned in as a red texas show. But has tripled his size in one year to about 13 inches long and getting thicker by the day it seems

That's a flowerhorn tracee and from the looks of it a f1. I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure it is. He's absolutely awesome. And op that's a kamfa. How much did you spend on him? He's really nice.

The OP' s Kamfa is definitely a Petsmart variety. I got one, that looks like it could be a twin. They cost between $15 & $30 bucks. IMO they look more like a Pearl Scaled Midevil rather than a Red Texas. Lol

I think he was about $75. He was in a tank all alone in the back of the store. I couldnt leave him there knowinf I had a big empty tank at home. I had no idea he would grow to be a monster . He plays with a few balls in his tank for entertainment but I just wish he could have a tank mate

I'd like to see a video of him. You can always try to pair him to a female, if you're lucky they will be compatible but they are best kept alone. I do have a pleco in my 150 with my kml, if there's enough space and some hiding a pleco can give him something to chase. But still I don't recommend any fish. Some sellers have plastic flowerhorn toys lots of hobbyist use to let their fh play with. Also lots of breeders and hobbyist will groom their fish with a mirror and blood parrots. If you have an extra tank you could always give home some playtime with one.

If you added a Rockscape using material too heavy for your FH to knock over, you might have a good chance stocking
Adult sized Botia Modesta (Red Fin) Loaches. I've kept Red Fins with a female short body FH, Texas, Red Texas and a RIvulatus with no fatalities. The Red Fins are not shy or reclusive and are really quick. They also have an attitude and can defend themselves with wicked eye blades if need be. Mine are great scavengers and are very entertaining to watch.

I have the same question about my fish. But mine wasnt purchased so young so i dont know what he looked like that small. He is larger now and i would love if the label it was sold under is correct. He was darker when he was younger.

Kamfa type flowerhorn
Listed at Petsmart as a Red Texas. :)
its a flowerhorn from seagrest fish farms, all their flowerhorns look about the same due to low genetic diversity
