I will be getting a red texas. I really wanna increase the red:
  1. Is the red on the red texas strictly genetics?
  2. Which would be better at increasing red, New Life Spectrum or Tetra Color Bits? I've had really great experience with increasing some of my past marlboro discus red color using Tetra Color Bits, never had any experience with NLS and red fish though.
  3. Any tips or recommendations?

You might have more results with Grand Sumo, heard a lot of goods things but never used it. Genetics, tank color, water quality, food, tank mates and a few other things have huge effects on color.

Grand sumo for sure but only when it gets older..its a color enhancer and is good to bring out the color in the fish but not really all that great for a growing fish :headbang2 use chingmix or NLS until it gets older

As stated, it is mostly genetics. If you want a nice red Texas, don't take your chances on a small one that the seller says hasn't pealed yet. A lot of people advertise non red texas as red Texas.

Heres a pic of the red texas I'm about to get. It's honda's red texas from one of cjbarth's batch. I figure at 2.5" with orange/red on its gill and a bit of red shade on its body it's gonna look pretty good after growth. I mean $15 seems like a great deal.

thats a nice lookin fish....

That's a bargain for $15.

There are two schools of thought with regards to enhancing coloration in a fish. You can feed your fish foods that artificially enhance the color in a fish (via synthetic color enhancers) or you can feed foods such as NLS, that only use natural color enhancing ingredients.

As previously stated, most of a fishes mature coloration boils down to genetics.

As far as enhancing red, the fish shown below was raised on an exclusive diet of NLS. See the following link for the original image. http://www.ida-may.com/other/jorg1.jpg

And no, that photo has not been enhanced in any way, shape, or form.

Can I put the red texas with other fish, or treat it like a flowerhorn and keep it isolated?
you could keep it with other fish but you would need a pretty big tank with a lot of hiding places and a lot of luck
