They do not look like Red Texas to me, but I'm def not an expert. Maybe someone else can give you a better answer... they look Flowerhorn of some type tho, at least to me.

I've seen rt like that too that have bloomed into huge rt with a body being a mix of texas and vieja shape

What's up with all these threads "rt? Is it an rt? Is this a red texas? Will this fish somehow magically become a red texas?"
This is the millionth one this year.

Did you buy it from somebody who specalizes in breeding rt? Or did you get it from some store that wants your $$$?
Get informed before you purchase if it's rt you want.

Looks like typical first gen mutt kamfa, just like the majority of these "rt" that everyone seems so confused about.

Looks like my brothers Red Texas. His is about 4 1/2-5" right now. Reminds me of Texas cichlid/Flowerhorn mix. My brother bought his from a reputable LFS so I don't think he got ripped off. I just don't know much about the Red Texas. All I know is yours looks very similar to my brothers so I believe yours is the real deal

Thank you for keeping things real. Most people here wouldn't know an RT if they got whacked over the head with one. lol

For anyone still reading this .........

Quality RT's cannot be purchased at your LFS, if they are, they will cost you some quality $$$$. Most RT's sold by Petsmart and the likes are NOT rt's, they are Kamfa, or some type of hybrid mix that doesn't even resemble a decent RT strain. Some turn out nice, some look like sheet. Whatever, they aren't RT. The "R" in RT stands for red, if you want an RT, not an OT (orange texas) then you have to generally buy from a reputable importer/breeder here in North America, or import directly from Asia yourself.
Either way it's going to cost you some serious coin, unless you buy locally and get really, really, really, damn lucky growing out some random fry. Kind of like winning the lottery. Below is a RT that I used to own, directly imported from Singapore. Adult male, a solid 11" or so. Several yrs ago when he was originally imported, his 'wholesale' cost was approx $300.00
